Reading-based MMA Insurance Reaches a Golden Age
One of the UK’s leading broker-only general insurers, MMA Insurance plc, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this week. The Right Worshipful the Mayor of Reading, Councillor Peter Beard attended a celebration ceremony with MMA’s Chief Executive, Garry Fearn and employees of the company on 20th October 2008.
A household name in France, with a large high-street presence, MMA is part of one of Europe’s largest financial groups, providing a range of general insurance in Western Europe. In the UK MMA only sells insurance via brokers and specialises in the commercial, motor and household insurance sectors.
Starting out as Norman Insurance, the company gave its name to its present riverside location, Norman Place, and now employs around 350 people in its landmark offices with its distinctive ‘Smartie’ logo. Reading has always been a fantastic location for the organisation, with a first-rate skills base and excellent transport links enabling easy access to its customers.
Garry Fearn, Chief Executive of MMA says: “MMA has a highly visible presence in Reading, with its prominent building and logo. However, many local residents may be unaware that we are one of the UK’s leading insurance companies providing insurance for both consumers and businesses.
“Reaching our half century is a milestone and we are looking forward to continuing to play a part in the prosperity of the local community. I would like to pay tribute to our staff, both past and present, many of whom are from the Reading area, as their dedication and hard work has been key to MMA’s success. We have a number of exciting developments in the pipeline and very much look forward to the next 50 years and reaching our centenary.”
